Psalm 39:4-6 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
4“Teach me, O Lord, about the end of my life.
Teach me about the number of days I have left
so that I may know how temporary my life is.
5Indeed, you have made the length of my days only a few inches.
My life span is nothing compared to yours.
Certainly, everyone alive is like a whisper in the wind.
6Each person who walks around is like a shadow.
They are busy for no reason.
They accumulate riches without knowing who will get them.”
James 4:13-14 (New International Reader's Version)
13 Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city. We will spend a year there. We will buy and sell and make money." 14 You don't even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? It is a mist that appears for a little while. Then it disappears.
I don't have to remind anyone that life is short. In one moment it could all end for any of us; in one moment it will be either the best of times or too late. We only have one chance in this life to make sure that we have taken care of what comes after. Jesus gave us the way when He said He was "the truth, and the way and the life".
We do not know this side of heaven why things happen the way they do. The most important thing we can do is to prepare ourselves and those around us for the inevitable. Have you given your life to Jesus? Have you surrendered yourself and accepted His gift of salvation? The time to do so is now, be it is too late.
