Praise for Fathers - June 21, 2015

Proverbs 23:22,24 (New International Version)
22 Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
...
24 The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him.

Proverbs 1:8(New Living Translation)
8 My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.

Psalm 68:4-6a (New International Reader's Version)
4 Sing to God. Sing praise to his name. Lift up a song to the One who rides on the clouds. His name is the Lord. Be glad when you are with him.

5 God is in his holy temple. He is a father to those whose fathers have died. He takes care of women whose husbands have died.

6 God gives lonely people a family. He sets prisoners free, and they go out singing. But those who refuse to obey him live in a land that is baked by the sun.

Ephesians 6:1-4 (New International Version)
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2"Honor your father and mother"—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." 4Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Being a father is a huge responsibility. There is no greater impact on the life of a child than the example of a good father. God has set up the earthly father as His example of His love for the jewel of His creation. He tells us who do not have fathers that He will take the place of the earthly father. With that responsibility from the Lord, we need to mindful that we are always to be godly men of integrity, humility, and love. We set the course of the life of our family.

As we celebrate godly fathers today, let us give them the honor and respect they rightly deserve, and at the same time let us lift up all fathers in prayer, that God will direct their paths and help them as they lead their families. May God bless and guard their hearts, and keep them in His loving care. Happy Father's Day!
