Memorial Day - May 25, 2015

John 15:13 (New International Version)
13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

For many of us the true meaning and depth of someone giving their life on our behalf is too hard to comprehend. Only those who have lost a loved one in the service to this country can understand the true sacrifice given. Most of those who have died in our nation's wars have done so willingly, through enlistment or as a volunteer. They were willing to step up to defend the Nation, their homes, and their families.

Two millennia ago another stepped up to voluntarily give their life on our behalf. He was willing to go be crucified on a Roman cross, so that the penalty for all sins, past, present and future would be paid in full. Jesus Christ should be given the thanks, respect and honor He is due, and accept His gift to us. We need to come to Him with grateful hearts and never forget His sacrifice.

As we reflect on this day, we need to never forget the sacrifice that all those who have given up their lives have made for us. We need to not forget to give them the respect and honor that they are due, and we need to be the caretakers of those that they have left behind. They and their families have truly followed the path of Christ in what they have given to us to secure our freedom.
