Psalm 3(New International Version)
1 LORD, how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
2 Many are saying of me,
“God will not deliver him.”
3 But you, LORD, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
4 I call out to the LORD,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.
5 I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
6 I will not fear though tens of thousands
assail me on every side.
7 Arise, LORD!
Deliver me, my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
break the teeth of the wicked.
8 From the LORD comes deliverance.
May your blessing be on your people.
Everyone can remember a time when they were picked on at school. If you are honest, you all encountered the bullies in your lives on more that one occasion. Those days of harassment seemed like they would never end, but if you had a big brother, those days soon cam to an end. It was your big brother who stuck up for you in the face of your enemies, and many of you fondly remember how you admired your great protector who kept you safe from harm.
These days, many are constantly under attack from one thing or another. At times the difficulties seem so overwhelming that you wonder if your "enemies" will do you in. If you are a believer, many of these attacks are sent by the evil one, wanting to distract you and keep you ineffective for God. At times it seems that the harassment will never end, but thank God, He stands ready to protect you, not as your big brother, but as your loving Father. If you will let Him, He will deliver you and keep you safe and secure.
If you are having trouble sleeping at night, why not let God be your "shield"? He will sustain you no matter what comes against you. Surrender your trouble to Him, and let Him stand in place of your big brother!
