Trapped! - September 20, 2014

James 1:13-15(New International Version)
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

We all have an inborn problem, which is the problem of giving in to temptation. Whether it is wrath, greed, laziness, pride, lust, envy, or gluttony, all of us have the problem of giving in to these vices. Why is that?

I believe that the temptations are all around us, on display day in and day out. The media today does a great job of shoving it in our faces; whether on television, or in magazines, or on billboards, it is designed to lure us in and trap us. And, because of our fallen nature, and the evil one's hate for us, we are very susceptible to getting trapped.

Some people have erected a strong defense against temptation by knowing their weaknesses, and seeking God's help for strength. Others tend to remain weak because they don't seek God nearly enough. Thank God that He loved us enough, to provide the way out of what has us trapped.

By the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross, we have the means of release from the traps that can lead to death. Jesus has overcome our sin and has redeemed us; it is our responsibility to accept God's gift, and once we are released, to avoid falling back into the trap.
