Recipe for Happiness - July 30, 2014

Psalm 1:1-3 (New Century Version)
1 Happy are those who don't listen to the wicked, who don't go where sinners go, who don't do what evil people do.

2 They love the Lord's teachings, and they think about those teachings day and night.

3 They are strong, like a tree planted by a river. The tree produces fruit in season, and its leaves don't die. Everything they do will succeed.

Our culture has turned this world upside down, but if you still desire a good recipe for being happy, this Psalm says it all. It is amazing how many of us don't learn the wisdom given here until we start turning gray, but it is never too late. Best of all, if we can pass this tidbit of wisdom to our children and the younger families around us.

The "don'ts" mentioned here cover who and what we listen to, what we involve ourselves in, and whose example we follow. This verse encourages us to avoid the wrong things in our lives and we will have richer and happier lives. The key to helping us do this is to consistently meditate on God's word. The result of this will be lives that are deeply rooted in God's wisdom, producing a plentiful crop of good things for those around us, and true success on God's terms.

As you begin a new week, decide to spend time in God's word. You will be the better for it.
