National Day of Prayer - May 1, 2014

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
Blessed are the people he chose to be his own.

Today, with barely a whimper from any media outlet is the National Day of Prayer. It is a day set aside that our Nation supposedly sets aside to call the citizens to pray for the country and where we are at this point in human history. Yet this day of prayer, and prayer in general is often forgotten and treated as just another day.

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

Where are you today? Where are you in terms of your prayer life? Our loving God wants to hear from us, and He promises in His word that "14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2Chronicles 7:14(KJV)

Today please make time to pray for our Nation. Pray for wisdom for our leaders and compassion for our people. Pray for that life will once again be considered sacred, and that the things of God will prevail in our Nation. Pray that we will remain that shining light of help to all of those who desire liberty and freedom, and pray that the "Light of Hope", our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ will be embraced by all.
