28 We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. They are the people he called, because that was his plan. 29 God knew them before he made the world, and he chose them to be like his Son so that Jesus would be the firstborn of many brothers and sisters.
30 God planned for them to be like his Son; and those he planned to be like his Son, he also called; and those he called, he also made right with him; and those he made right, he also glorified.
As parents, we are always mindful of who our children are looking up to. When we were growing up, there were plenty of heroes and it was easy to find an example of someone we wanted to be like. It's not as easy today, because many of the athletes or politicians or movie stars tend not have the character traits that we would like our children to exhibit. In most cases, the best heroes for our children are their parents. We need to lead by being the best example of holiness that we can.
That was part of God's overall plan for the lives of those who would believe in Jesus. He gave us the example of His Son, so that we would know what character traits would be pleasing to God and good for His people. God wants us to be like Jesus; our behavior, habits, and how we treat others need to be a reflection of Jesus Christ. God planned what would happen in our lives in advance for us to be able to be so, Everything that happens in our life has the purpose of making us more like Him.
With this in mind, we need to make sure that our pursuits in life are to be more like Jesus Christ. We need to try to reflect Christ in every thing we do, and to everyone we come in contact with. It isn't always easy, and there are many times when behaving like Jesus is very hard to do, but we need to be always intentional in our actions to try to be more like Him.
