All of Creation Praises Him - April 10, 2014

Psalm 148:7 (New International Version)
7 Praise the LORD from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,...

The largest creature on the planet is the sperm whale. A full grown male whale can be up to 67 feet long, and it can dive up over 9,800 feet into depths of the ocean; that's almost 2 miles down. During the 18th century it was hunted for it's oil and blubber, and it became the source on many tales from the seafarers that hunted it. You might recall the tale from Herman Melville about Captain Ahab who had an obsession about killing a great white whale that took his leg. Published in 1851, Moby Dick went on to become a great American Novel.

Although this tale popularized this great animal, well before that the whale was a topic spoken of several times in the Bible. We read of it here in the Psalms 104:25-26:

25 There is the sea, vast and spacious,
teeming with creatures beyond number—
living things both large and small.
26 There the ships go to and fro,
and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.

Such a magnificent creature can only bring praises to its Creator, for in all of creation's many wonders only the sperm whale can boast of being the largest in all the earth. When you wonder at the immensity of His creation, God has truly done a marvelous thing. Yet even the greatest and largest of God's creatures, does not have the opportunity to experience His love as we do. Only man in all creation can receive God's gift of love, our redemption through Jesus Christ.

With such a great love as this, shouldn't we give Him all of our praises?
