Resting in His Peace - February 28, 2014

John 14:27(New International Version)
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Philippians 4:6-7(New Living Translation)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

We have been searching for God's remedy for our troubles and distress over the last few days. We have been asking what we need to do in the face of the difficulties, especially when it seems that God is not doing anything about resolving it. We have been crying out asking God how long we must go through this. We ask what will break us free from our troubles and distress?

Working through our troubles is always a process, and when things are most difficult our approach to God needs to reflect that. We spoke of seeking our loving God in prayer, making sure we are walking in obedience to His word, continually having faith in the promises He has made to us, and always remembering the times He has been faithful to us in the past.

At the end of the day we need to embrace the peace that He offers. When we give our lives to Jesus Christ, He provides for us the comfort and companionship of the Holy Spirit. We need to rest in the comfort and peace that the Spirit gives us, rather than fighting it in our anxiety of the moment. We need to have faith that God is in control, and He will not let us fall. We may not always like what we are going through, but at the end of our struggles, He will be there with us.
