Living Though "Job's Life" Part 9 - February 5, 2014

Job 8:1-7; Job 8:20-22 (The Message)
1-7 Bildad from Shuhah was next to speak:
"How can you keep on talking like this?
You're talking nonsense, and noisy nonsense at that.
Does God mess up?

Does God Almighty ever get things backward?
It's plain that your children sinned against him—
otherwise, why would God have punished them?

Here's what you must do—and don't put it off any longer:
Get down on your knees before God Almighty.

If you're as innocent and upright as you say,
it's not too late—he'll come running;
he'll set everything right again, reestablish your fortunes.
Even though you're not much right now,
you'll end up better than ever.
...
20-22 "There's no way that God will reject a good person,
and there is no way he'll help a bad one.
God will let you laugh again;
you'll raise the roof with shouts of joy,
With your enemies thoroughly discredited,
their house of cards collapsed."

To add to Job's grief, another friend speaks up and begins accusing Job of being "self-righteous", mainly that God would not do something to his family if they wouldn't have sinned. Once again someone that is supposed to be a friend chides and accuses Job without just cause. It's like rubbing salt in his wounds, accusing a man that had been known for walking with God of being disrespectful towards Him.

It is interesting that when you read this account of Job that you recognize that much of this same "talk" often occurs around us. I would bet that all of us can identify a person or two in our lives, that behave similarly to Job's friends. Little hurts worse than to have our friends heap us with accusations and criticism when we are down. You can probably hear the words of those people in Bildad's cutting statement, "Here's what you must do—and don't put it off any longer: Get down on your knees before God Almighty."

What I take from this is that there is only One that you can depend on during times like these, and that is God.
