What Faith Can Do - January 20, 2014

Ephesians 6:16(Common English Bible)
16 Above all, carry the shield of faith so that you can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Ephesians 6:16(Amplified Bible)
16Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].

It has really been tough for many people over the last few years, and even if it has been okay, life for others just doesn't seem like it is getting them anywhere. Obstacles seem to always come up that either sidetrack our plans, or turn things completely around. After awhile, even the strongest Christian gets weary from the battle. Even those who feel closest to God wonder, "Why is God allowing so much difficulty in my lives?". After awhile, disappointment with God sets in and we call into question if He will ever make things better.

This is the time where we as believer's in Jesus Christ need to be especially on our guard. These are the times that we are easily susceptible to leaving ourselves vulnerable to the attacks from Satan. Nothing gives the "evil one" a bigger thrill than to get us side-tracked and focused on our circumstances and disappointment. He relishes in the fact that we feel letdown by God. Unfortunately at these times we might find ourselves falling away from God, or at least not trusting Him for help in our daily struggles.

This verse is taken from the apostle Paul's letter to the Ephesians, where he warned us to put on the full armor of God. One of the elements of in our armory has to be the "shield of faith". I believe that when we feel letdown and away from God, that is the time when we need to pick up that shield. That is when our faith that has been built on God's past goodness, mercy and grace to us, needs to guard us against this attack from Satan.

We need to remember that God is good; He is good all of the time. Because of Jesus Christ, and because of His love for us, He identifies with our difficulty and He wants to help us. We need to be patient and wait on the solution that He will provide.

If this sounds like the situation you are in, go to your Father in prayer. Lay your hurt, pain, difficulty and disappointment at His feet. He will give you His peace, and sooner than later you will see Him work on your behalf.
