What Do You Believe? Now What? - October 21, 2012

Colossians 2:6-15(New Living Translation)
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.

13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

We have explored several proofs for your belief in Jesus Christ, and you have accepted Him as your personal Lord and Savior. Now what should you do? How can you take your new found faith and make it work for you? And, if you have been a believer in Jesus for a long time, but you have just now had your faith "clarified" and you now understand the full extent of your relationship; now what?

Paul in writing to believers in Colossi gave wise counsel to help answer those very questions. In the verses above, he made it clear to them what they had experienced, and he warned them about what the world and people of other faiths would throw at them. He also gave them sound instruction of what salvation had done for them, so that they would not be easily swayed by what others would tell them.

God has given us a tremendous gift! He has done what no other faith or religion or human philosophy could do; He has given you new life in Jesus Christ. He has taken your old sinful self, and taken away the just penalty for your sin. Jesus Christ has personally paid the price so that you wouldn't have to, and now you can be free from the burden you once had to carry on your own.

Now that you believe and have been given such a gift, you need to build your life on that truth. Stand up for Jesus and make sure that you help others to stand with you.
