Faithful Stewards - September 2, 2012

1 Peter 4:10 (New International Version, ©2010)
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

What is your reaction when you see the guys at the street corners with signs in their hand stating, "Broke", "Hungry", "Homeless", "Need Food", "Please Help", ..."God Bless"? Are you afraid of them? Do you roll up your windows and lock your car doors? How about the people on the street looking for a handout? Do you walk around them looking the other way, or stare onto the sidewalk? Does it matter if the one who is begging is an adult or a child? What breaks your heart more? Does it break your heart at all?

Most of us, if we see a sight like this, react to it one way or the other. What we do and how we react is what is important. I believe God provides these people in our lives. For each of us it becomes a test of whether or not our faith has flesh and blood; whether or not we will truly live out what we are taught. Jesus was compelled to help those who were in need; I can't recall a situation in the gospels where he did not act out of compassion for the hurting.

As those who call on his name as our Lord, we must do the same. If we are not compelled to do something to help our fellow man, we need to check our Christian pulse. I pray that all of our hearts will always be prompted by the Holy Spirit to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and to serve all of those who are in need of a touch from the Savior.
