Blessed are Those Who Mourn - July 20, 2012
Matthew 5:4(New Century Version)
4 They are blessed who grieve, for God will comfort them.
Matthew 5:4(New International Version)
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Most of us woke up to the terrible tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, where a young man went on a murderous rampage in a movie theater, killing 12 and injuring at least 50 others. Many young lives, the youngest being 6 years old were snuffed out in s single act violence, leaving many families in horrifying grief. Events such as these leave our entire nation stunned in disbelief as we contemplate this kind of tragedy.
It is times like these when many turn to God in hopes of finding some comfort and solace in the face of such an unbelievable event. Thankfully Jesus addressed this very thing as He shared His "Sermon on the Mount" with thousands of followers. He shared these words that gives us insight to our loving Father; God grieves with us when we are in pain and distress. He shares in our sufferings, and in His love for us, He offers us comfort.
I pray that He will truly comfort those who have lost so much, and that He will bring healing to those who are suffering from injuries. I pray that He will bring good out of this evil and that He will be glorified through the actions of the responders. I pray further that our politicians will seek His will and guidance, as they move to find a way to help prevent these events from occuring. Most of all, I pray that the hearts of men will be moved to seek the face of God, and that they will look to Jesus to truly bring them peace.
