Stepping Out for Jesus - January 30, 2012

Romans 1:16-17 (New International Version)
16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Matthew 10:32(New Century Version)
32 "All those who stand before others and say they believe in me, I will say before my Father in heaven that they belong to me.

These days it is almost the "kiss of death" to call yourself a Christian. There are very few situations in today's world where you will not be ridiculed for being a Christian. If you haven't experienced it, then you have not stepped very far out from your sphere of Christian friends, or you have not been very bold with your faith. If you are not being bold, then you are in danger of finding yourself a bit irrelavent for the kingdom of God.

My heart was gladdened this past weekend, when I read my daughter's "bio" in the program for a high school musical that she is participating. In it she boldly stated that she wanted to thank Jesus for her talent and the abilities that God has given her. It really stood out, because none of the other bios specifically gave thanks to God. I thank God that He has chosen to be so visible in her life. It truly is the highest blessing to have your children following Jesus Christ.

Stepping out as a Christian is a statement to all those who notice that your are not ashamed of the goodness of the saving faith in Jesus Christ. It is great news to those hurting around you that God loves them, and that He loved them enough to send Jesus to die on the cross for their sins. It is also great news that Jesus stepped out of the grave and proved that He was God, and He has gone before us to prepare a better place for us.

God has provided us the way out of the troubles of this world. He has cleaned us up and made us right with Him. In turn we need to unashamedly step out and make sure that everyone we come in contact with knows it.
