John 14:27(New King James Version)
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27(New Living Translation)
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
One would think that with everything going on these days that it would be almost be impossible not to get stressed out. There are many people that are un-employed, that were recently laid off, that are stretched out financially, that suffer from an illness, that have trouble in their relationships, etc. There are many things that are leading to sleepless nights and days of hopelessness. But that shouldn't be!
Not that the "stuff" of life shouldn't be stressful, but in Jesus Christ, we are not to look at the troubles in life in such stressful and desparate terms. I know it is hard to understand while you are in the middle of it, but God does love and care for you. He doesn't want you to spend each and every day worrying about the next. That is not how He planned for us to live.
Jesus was among His disciples in the Upper Room just before His crucifixion when He said these word. Knowing what was in front of HIm and in store for the friends He loved, He sought to calm their anxious hearts by giving them the gift of His peace. The peace He gives is the truth that as long as we are a disciple of Jesus Christ, not matter what happens to us, He will be with us, and He will take care of us throughout eternity.
Hard to belive, but the peace that Jesus leaves us is that our salvation in Him trumps anything in this world. One day we will die; that is a fact that we can't escape, but in Jesus though we die in the body, we will live forever with Him in soul and spirit.
