Fortune Cookies - July 16, 2011
Psalm 128(New International Reader's Version)
1 Blessed are all those who have respect for the Lord.
They live as he wants them to live.
2 Your work will give you what you need.
Blessings and good things will come to you.
3 As a vine bears a lot of fruit,
so your wife will have many children by you.
They will sit around your table
like young olive trees.
4 Only a man who has respect for the Lord
will be blessed like that.
5 May the Lord bless you from Zion.
May you enjoy the good things that come to Jerusalem
all the days of your life.
6 May you live to see your grandchildren.
May Israel enjoy peace.
Don't you just love to go and eat Chinese food with your family? Even at a young age I remember going to our favorite Chinese restaurant and eating all of the wonderful foods "family style". Everyone would share their dishes, and we learned how to eat with those funny sticks with the rubber bands on them. The best part cam at the end, when the server passed around the fortune cookies. Each one would take their turn and read their fortune out loud. Of course they never came true, but that still didn't stop the excitement and fun of the occassion.
The word of God is somewhat like a fortune cookie. Not to diminish God's word to something so frivolous, but each and every chapter and verse opens up words of wisdom and good fortune. If we will take the advice given, and do as we are told, and accept the promises offerred, we will reap the blessings as they are written. Just like what's written in the fortune cookie, except these sayings do come true! So next chance you get, break open your Bible, turn to a good section of the Psalms or Proverbs and see what good fortune the Lord has in store for you.
