Paid in Full - May 1, 2011

Isaiah 44:21-23 (New Living Translation)

21 “Pay attention, O Jacob,
for you are my servant, O Israel.
I, the Lord, made you,
and I will not forget you.

22 I have swept away your sins like a cloud.
I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist.
Oh, return to me,

for I have paid the price to set you free.”

23 Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done this wondrous thing. Shout for joy, O depths of the earth!

Break into song, O mountains and forests and every tree!
For the Lord has redeemed Jacob and is glorified in Israel.

I am sure that nothing seems much worse than going to jail, and then going to court to be judged and sentenced for our guilt. There has long been a story that compares what Jesus has done for us to a criminal facing a judge because of a serious offense, only to be set free from confinement because our penalty had been paid.

Christ's death on the cross is that for us. We are guilty of the sins we commit in our lives, and facing God, our holy and perfect judge, would lead to eternal seperation, eternal death, if it were not for what Jesus had done for all of mankind. Our sins demand payment, and in that one act of our perfect, unblemished, Savior, gave us the opportunity to walk free.

With God, although we are guilty, Jesus Christ has paid our penalty in full. He removes our sin "as far as the east is from the west", the Bible tells us. God remembers our iniquities, our sins, no more. We are set free from the "shackles or our sin", and we have the opportunity to live a new life; free to have a fresh start.

If you have not already done so, won't you accept what Jesus has done for you? Do so, and you will enjoy the freedom that comes from Him paying for what we have done. No longer do you need to worry about your eternal future and the payment for your guilt. It has been paid in full.
