Matthew 24:36-44 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
36“No one knows when that day or hour will come. Even the angels in heaven and the Son don’t know. Only the Father knows.
37“When the Son of Man comes again, it will be exactly like the days of Noah. 38In the days before the flood, people were eating, drinking, and getting married until the day that Noah went into the ship. 39They were not aware of what was happening until the flood came and swept all of them away. That is how it will be when the Son of Man comes again.
40“At that time two men will be working in the field. One will be taken, and the other one will be left. 41Two women will be working at a mill. One will be taken, and the other one will be left.
42“Therefore, be alert, because you don’t know on what day your Lord will return. 43You realize that if a homeowner had known at what time of the night a thief was coming, he would have stayed awake. He would not have let the thief break into his house.
44Therefore, you, too, must be ready because the Son of Man will return when you least expect him.
Well, it was supposed to happen today. The END OF THE WORLD was to begin today with the Rapture of all Christians, then earthquakes were to begin starting from one end of the planet and progressing to the other, until the whole world would be in disarray. This would have marked the beginning of 5 months of tribulation until THE END in October. Harold Camping was sure; unfortunately he was surely wrong.
Others say that he was only a year and 7 months off, that the real END OF THE WORLD will be at the end of the Mayan calendar; December 21, 2012. There has been talk about that day for a long time. Many have been planning for a long time for 2012, in fact many of you have seen the movie by that name. But, I am afraid that those same people will be sadly disappointed.
What is bad about all of this hype about the world's end is that many people sincerely believe it, and they are so sure of those who preach it that they give them everything for the cause of telling people. Is it a wonder that Mr. Camping's church is worth millions? I am sure that he and everyone else are sincere, but if they know anything about the Bible, they would know these words of Jesus Christ, where, when asked when the end would come, He told His disciples that only God the Father knew.
Now many, who may have come to Christ in the lead up to this event, will doubt their faith and may even fall back into the world, because these events never took place. To make things worse, those who have always been non-believers are now laughing at Christians in general, because they lump us all into the same group. I am very sure that most Christians familiar with the Bible knew that the Rapture, Judgement Day, and the beginning of the END OF THE WORLD would not be today, although they all may have hoped for it.
No man will be able to predict the end. It will come "like a thief in the night", when we least expect it. So what is the message? As Jesus was clear to say, we need to be ready!
