Eyewitness Faith - May 31, 2011

2 Peter 1:16-18 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
16When we apostles told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we didn’t base our message on clever myths that we made up. Rather, we witnessed his majesty with our own eyes.

17For example, we were eyewitnesses when he received honor and glory from God the Father and when the voice of our majestic God spoke these words to him: “This is my Son, whom I love and in whom I delight.”

18We heard that voice speak to him from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

How many times have you heard a skeptic say that the Bible is nothing but a bunch of fables, legends and myths? I am sure it has been plenty of times. Skeptics just love to say things like that to prove to everyone that they really don't know what they are talking about.

Rarely has someone that has truly studied the Bible say that what they studied was make believe. There is more proof for the Bible than any other text of the same age. As I have said before, there is more evidence of Jesus Christ's existence and message than there is for Julius Caesar, yet you never hear that Julius was fable, legend or myth.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, the good news is that we have eyewitness, first-hand knowledge of Jesus Christ, both as a human being and in His glory. Peter, James and John were present, all who were authors of books of the Bible, and we can have confidence that what they tell us is true. Jesus is who He said he was, and you can trust the word of those who carried on His message and as was the case for Peter and James, even gave their lives for it.

We can have confidence in our faith because eyewitnesses to all that was said about Jesus was written down and given to us. The next time you are faced with a skeptic, ask them first if they have ever read and studied the Bible, and them point them to the eyewitness account.
