Psalm 49:16-17 (New International Version, ©2011)
16 Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases;17 for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.
1 Timothy 6:7 (New International Version, ©2011)
7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.
You have heard it said that, "You don't see a U-Haul behind a hearse". How true that is. When we die, everything earthly thing we have will be left behind. This points to the foolishness of accumulating houses and cars, and anything else we try so hard to earn in life. The verses from the psalm above makes it clear that we shouldn't even be impressed by the worldly goods of others, because they will all be left behind as well.
Our focus needs to be on what we do of eternal value. First, we need to accept Jesus Christ and make sure of our future address. Next, we need to take advantage of every good work that God directs us to do. Then we need to live lives obedient to what God has required of us in His word. Finally, we need to make sure our life focus is on sharing with everyone around us what we ourselves have learned about eternity.
Serve God, not man and make sure that your investments are in the right place.
