Important to God - March 30, 2011

Psalm 8 (New International Version, ©2011)
1 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
in the heavens.

2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

If you have ever wondered your importance to God, you should witness a total lunar eclipse and meditate on this chapter from the Book of Psalm.
It is one of the wonders of God's creation that is totally mesmorizing as you are witnessing it. You feel very small, yet when you read God's word, He speaks often of how you are important to Him. I took photos of one in the Winter of 2008, and we just had another this past Winter.

King David of ancient Israel spent many hours gazing into the heavens, and what he saw caused him to also wonder how God could work in his meager life, yet God chose him for a specific purpose, to do His will in his time. Now thousands of years later, David is a fact of history, and he is know for being "a man after God's own heart"(1 Samuel 13:14). David serves as an example to one blessed, yet one very human in his shortcomings; in other words he was probably like many of us.

You too are important to God; He cares for you, and He is "mindful" of you. As you get closer to being like Jesus Christ, and as you grow closer to God, He will show you what you are to do. Although you may seem very small, He has something for you to do on His behalf. Be sure you are prepared to do it.
