Hey Jude: Build Up! - March 4, 2011

Jude 1:20 (New International Reader's Version)
20 Dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. Let the Holy Spirit guide and help you when you pray.

Every sound and stable structure first requires a solid foundation, then each block needs to be secured one on top of the other. Each block has to be placed and secured properly, so that the structure can withstand the many forces that will come against it in the years, and decades to come.

To combat the persecution and heresy that would come against followers of Jesus Christ, Jude encouraged the believers to build themselves up in the faith. For us that means that we must first have the secure foundation of Jesus, by accepting Him as Lord and Savior, and on top of this, we need to study the word of God through studying the Bible.

By intense study, the Holy Spirit will guide us and help us build up our faith. The more we learn about the nature, character and will of God, the more solid we build upon our belief in Him. and the more easily we can defend against anything that will come against us. In addition, we need to constantly seek God through prayer, and the Spirit will show us what we need to do.

With these building blocks of faith, study and prayer, we can develop a sound and stable faith, that can withstand the forces that will come against us in the years and decades ahead.
