Galatians 5:22-25 (New International Version, ©2010)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Since the "fruit" that is produced from living as part of the world is readily seen as living against God, how can you tell those who are walking and living under the guidance of God? What are the actions and characteristics that a Christian that is influenced through the Holy Spirit exhibit? How do you know that you are truly walking with God?
Just as this 5th chapter of Galations clearly points out the "fruit" produced by those against God, it describes the "fruit of the Spirit". If we are the children of God, and if we are truly Christians, our lives will reflect these good characteristics of Christ. Not that we are perfect, and not that we don't show some of the characteristics of the world from time to time, but if we are truly saved through Jesus Christ, our lives will be governed by Jesus and exhibit these spiritual fruits.
Over the next few days, I will dig deeper into this basket of good fruit, and look into how we might best exhibit each of these as we live out our lives for God.
