2 Timothy 4:8 (New International Version, ©2010)
8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
Tonight many are watching what I feel is one of the biggest festivals of self-aggrandizement and self-worship man could ever invent. Every year we watch as actors, directors, producers, and the rest of the Hollywood who's who crowd get together to enhance and exaggerate their own importance, power, and reputation.
Yes, it is the night of the Acedemy Awards, Oscar night, the night when all of Hollywood comes together to recognize each other. They give each other awards voted on by themselves, their peers. Sad thing is that millions of people in this country and around the world waste a night of their time watching this spectacle on television. It is no wonder that so many of this crowd are having so many problems in their lives.
Pesonally I am looking forward to God's Academy Awards. He has promised us that if we follow Jesus Christ and live for Him, there will be a time when we will be recognized for our efforts on of behalf of God's kingdom. Not that we should be motivated by the awards, but it is nice to know that everything we do for Him will be recognized by Him. He awards those characteristics such selflessness, sacrifice, giving, charity, long-suffering, and many other things we do for those around us in His name.
If you are thrilled by worldy accolades and awards, you really should do a personal checkup of your priorities. Instead of being mesmerized by all this false glitz and glamour, make every effort to make God's values your first priority.
