Ready or Not, Here He Comes! - September 1, 2010

Matthew 24:36-44 (New Living Translation)

36 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.

37 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. 38 In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. 39 People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

40 “Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.

42 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. 43 Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into.

44 You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

As you go about your day, taking kids to school, going to work, and living through your normal day, do you ever wonder, will Jesus really come back? For many, nothing could be further from their minds. There are too many other things to be focused on; making money, going shopping, playing golf, having drinks with friends, things of much more importance than worrying about God. Problem is though, we have no idea when it will happen, and for some when it does it will be too late.

Some will decide that it is something they would rather ignore, but I say it is something that we all need to really pay attention to. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you have to believe in his soon coming return. Sure they have been waiting since the beginning for him to come back, but these days you can feel something different is going on. So there is a real need for everyone to be ready. If you are not thinking about it, you need to be, and if you don't know what you need to do ask someone who does.

As for me, I can't wait. Words like those noted above, uttered by Jesus long ago, build up anticipation within me. I long for that day when everything will be made right again. The daily evil that goes on in this world is too horrible to even imagine. So it is better to let everyone know that a new day is waiting for them, that Jesus is the answer to all of their troubles in this life and the next. If you find yourself reading this, I would ask one question, "Are you ready?"
