Occupied for Christ - September 23, 2010

Daniel 12:3 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
3Those who are wise will shine like the brightness on the horizon. Those who lead many people to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.

Matthew 24:42-47 (New International Version)
42"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

45"Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

We have been talking lately about distractions, hinderances, and things that hurt your faith and walk with Jesus Christ. We also have read how faithful God is in all of this and how He directs and guides us in our efforts to overcome. But what should we be doing while we are waiting to be with our Lord?

In verse 45 of Matthew 24, Jesus uses a common analogy of his day to illustrate his expectations. Once we have accepted him, he is our master and the food he has given us to distribute is the "bread of life" that we find in his word, the Bible. This is the answer, that we need to be about "the Lord's business". We need to take what we are learning in our walk and be a good witness to others.

This means that our primary mission is to lead everyone we can to the good news, the gospel of the kingdom of God. That needs to become our number one priority, because God has given us the responsibility of the other people around us. We need to be constantly talking to them about Jesus Christ and praying for the Holy Spirit to work in their hearts. We aren't expected to do the conversion, just to "give them their food at the proper time".

Someday, Jesus Christ will return to the earth for his church, those who have accepted salvation in his work on the cross. He will come back when we least expect it. Be sure you are counted among his faithful and wise servants.
