Light Bulb Moment - September 8, 2010

Romans 8:13-17 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
13If you live by your corrupt nature, you are going to die. But if you use your spiritual nature to put to death the evil activities of the body, you will live.

14Certainly, all who are guided by God’s Spirit are God’s children. 15You haven’t received the spirit of slaves that leads you into fear again. Instead, you have received the spirit of God’s adopted children by which we call out, “Abba! Father!”

16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

17If we are his children, we are also God’s heirs. If we share in Christ’s suffering in order to share his glory, we are heirs together with him.

Do you remember ever having that "light bulb moment"? That moment when you finally realized what salvation in Jesus Christ really meant? Many of you grew up sitting in a church or Sunday School class and heard about Christian things; about Adam and Eve, Noah and the Ark, Abraham, Joseph, Moses and the wandering Jews, David and Goliath, Jesus and the disciples.
You have heard all the stories and have a book knowledge of what it is to be a Christian, but have you really had that moment when you truly understood what it is all about?

That moment happened for me after many years of being very far from God. I had grown up in a church, but I never really understood at that time. It wasn't until I finally had been through "the pit", through the dirt and mire of life, that I understood that God loved me, and that no matter what sins I had done that Jesus Christ had died for them all; nailed them all to the cross. And then he stepped out of the grave to prove who he said he was; God in the flesh.

You don't have to go through the dirt and mire of life. You don't have to experience "the pit", because we all are imperfect and sinners in need of God's mercy and grace. All you need to do is admit your sins; admit that you need a Savior; acknowledge that you believe God sent His son, Jesus Christ, to die for you, and that you want to live your life for Him. Once you do, the Holy Spirit will help you to understand it all; God will help you with a life change that will give you that "light bulb moment".
