Lead with Praise - July 19, 2010

Joshua 6:2-5,15,20(GOD’S WORD Translation)
2The Lord said to Joshua, “I am about to hand Jericho, its king, and its warriors over to you. 3All the soldiers will march around the city once a day for six days. 4Seven priests will carry rams’ horns ahead of the ark. But on the seventh day you must march around the city seven times while the priests blow their horns. 5When you hear a long blast on the horn, all the troops must shout very loudly. The wall around the city will collapse. Then the troops must charge straight ahead into the city.”
15On the seventh day they got up at dawn. They marched around the city seven times the same way they had done it before. That was the only day they marched around it seven times.
20So the troops shouted very loudly when they heard the blast of the rams’ horns, and the wall collapsed. The troops charged straight ahead and captured the city.

Yesterday I wrote about how we needed to have confidence in God, because He has placed us in a particular situation for His purpose to bring Him glory. I also stated that if we wanted to be more effective and succesful in life, that we needed to make it a habit to give God more glory. So how do we accomplish that when we are faced with a difficult situation?

We need commit the situation to prayer, and we need to go out and lead with praise. You will note in the story above that Joshua and the people were given specific instruction, that they followed to the letter. The process lasted seven days, and each day they marched around the city blowing the ram's horn (in praise). On the seventh day they marched around seven times blowing the horn and gave a shout (to the Lord) and God delivered the city to them.

We too have to seek God's council in His word and be obedient to the instruction of the Holy Spirit. He will tells us what we need to do in the situation. We need to then lead out against the problem in prayer. A prayer in this sitution might go something like this:

"Father in Heaven I know that you know me as your child. Because I believe and have placed my life in your hands, and called on the name of Jesus for my salvation, I know that you want all things to work out for my good.

Lord I am being faced with a very difficult trial right now, and I know that you have placed me here for your reasons. I don't fully understand your purposes, but I ask that you will help me face this with joy and determination. I know you will be with me through this storm and I have confidence that you will help me to overcome this.

I praise your glorious name, and I give you thanks for being my Savior and Lord. I know that you are my hope and salvation and I give you all of the glory for rescuing me from this. I will accomplish your goals and your desires for my life, and I know that you have placed your desires in my heart, and my trust in you will not me in vain.

To you belongs the glory and I will praise you Lord from the depths of my heart in my love for you! In the name of your Son Jesus I pray, Amen!"
