Proverbs 17:17 (New Living Translation)
17 A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.
Proverbs 18:24(New International Version)
24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
John 15:15 (New International Reader's Version)
15 "I do not call you servants anymore. Servants do not know their master's business. Instead, I have called you friends. I have told you everything I learned from my Father.
Life is difficult to say the least. It's trials and tribulations are enough to try your soul. Each and everyday more and more occurs that adds to the frustration. Isn't it great that you have friends! Isn't it better if you have one or two real friends! Someone that can help you tolerate all the bad and celebrate all of the good. Someone who is for you no matter what, and one that you can count on to always be there. Blessed are you if you have a true friend. The two passages from the Proverbs above, give us great advice about real friends.
Jesus said a lot about what it was to be a friend, and he counted but very few as such. His disciples spent almost the entire three and one-half years of his ministry with him, and they accompanied Jesus day and night. He shared many close and personal times with them, and as he says above, he told them everything that his Father told him. But even though he was surrounded by the twelve disciples, at the end of his earthly life, all but one deserted him. Only John was at the cross alongside the mother of Jesus. In the end though of his time on earth, he allowed the disciples to reconcile their frienship with him, and like a true friend he forgave them.
If you haven't said so lately, tell that special friend what you feel about them. If you have spoken lately, give them a call. If for some reason you feel wronged or hurt by that true friend, forgive them and be reconciled with them. A true friend is a wonderful and rare thing. Count your blessings and be one as well.
