His Story: Redeeming the Terrible Twos - March 25, 2010

Genesis 3:14-15 (Amplified Bible)
14And the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all [domestic] animals and above every [wild] living thing of the field; upon your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust [and what it contains] all the days of your life.

15And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.

Isaiah 9:6 (New King James Version)
6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Romans 16:20 (Amplified Bible)
20And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) be with you.

Galatians 4:4-6 (New Living Translation)
4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. 6 And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

Now I am going to tell you something that the mainstream media and our society will say is all wrong: We are all born bad! Yes, babies are cute and cuddley, but that soon wears off. You believe that, if you have ever tried to raise a child through the "terrible twos". When babies reach that wonderful age, their parents often wonder what they have done!

I am of the opinion, that it is at this time you really can see into the heart of mankind. That is when you really see the separation that was caused by the fall, but by the grace of God, a little stern discipline, and the patient teaching of a loving parent, that time soon passes.

Let's just say that after The Fall, mankind went through their "terrible twos" for along time. God told us we would have days like that. The verse from Genesis highlights the curse that was placed on the serpent, and predicted what would ultimately happen to Satan.

The Fall in Genesis marked the beginning of a long and difficult process, that took mankind through The Flood, through the calling of a man in which to bring about a people, through the calling out of a people through which He revealed His Law, through His revelation of The Law to show the impossibility of keeping it, and through which He would ultimately redeem mankind back to Him, through the provision of His own Son.

At the right time and place, God provided a way back to Him; a way for all of mankind to be made right in His sight. Every one of us have found ourselves in this very same condition that resulted from our own personal Fall. We have been rebellious and self-centered, lost and confused, and oftentimes stuck in our "terrible twos".

But by the grace of God, a little stern discipline, and the patient teaching of our loving Father and God, that time soon passed. As we approach Easter, let us humbly remember how we lost our way, and remember the One who ultimately found us.
