Sweat the Small Stuff - February 4, 2010

Luke 16:10 (New Living Translation)10 "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities".

Have you found yourself slacking and being complacent with what you are supposed to be doing? All of us have been guilty of that from time to time. It is always easiest to leave this undone or that, or to do this halfway or that half-heartedly. And who among us has not squandered what we have earned, and wasted it on things of little value? Really now,... we are only human!

In the Book of Luke, Jesus relays a number of parables meant to demonstrate God's love for lost people, and our responsibility to the lost as believers. He also goes on to teach about our realtionship with material wealth, and how at times we might need to be shrewed in our dealings to accomplish eternal goals.

I am of the opinion that what Jesus is really trying teach us in the chapters and verses surrounding the verse noted above is that whatever God gives us in life, whether it concerns people around us, or material possessions he entrusts to us, he expects us to value and treat them as He would. It all matters to Him. Everything and everyone is significant and important, and all things have the purpose of sharing His love and grace with the world around us.

At times the assignment He gives us may seem small and insignificant, and at other times what we do for the Kingdom may carry high importance with it. Our obligation is to accept His sacred trust in all things, and to always do our best with everything we are given.
